Back from my literary trip to the Balkans

Posted 22/1/2020

I had a very pleasant trip to the Balkans just before Christmas. I first went to Romania where I was warmly welcomed by Anca-Maria, my emotional translator, and Marius Motoca, from Cuerta Veche. After a sunny guided tour of the city, and several media activities related to the launch of the Romanian translation of Le facteur émotif (The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman), I did bid farewell to Bucharest, and continued my trip to Sofia, Bulgaria, where I was invited by the Sofia Literary Festival. The event coincided with the launch of a Bulgarian translation of Le facteur émotif, by Kaloyan Pramatarov, released by List Publishing. Again, the welcome and hospitality were perfect. In addition to participating in the festival activities, I met a group of PhD students in cultural mediation at Sofia University whose teacher was none other than Patricia Couture, the most Bulgarian of the Gaspesians, and I gave an interview on the program Bibliothekata for Bulgarian National Television. Many thanks to Gueorgui, Zorntiza, Rada, Elena, Martin, Gergana, Mila, the other Gergana, Nadejda, and Nina.

Great discoveries and good times, two new countries where I hope I will return some day.
